Overview: 

The Academic Advisor’s main responsibility will be assisting with the implementation of a holistic advisement and student retention program. Serving as a liaison, the Academic Advisor will connect students with the appropriate paths of study to turn their educational dreams into a reality. The successful candidate will demonstrate and practice student centeredness, while fostering close professional relationships with the students they support. Reporting directly to the Campus Dean, this position will work collaboratively with other departments and programs to ensure accurate, appropriate, and timely services for all students.

Functions

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop an advising and mentoring relationship with current and incoming university students.
  • Provide holistic advising service while assisting students with problem-solving by appointment and drop-in basis
  • Assist with student registration and course schedule planning;
  • Provide intensive and proactive services to foster student retention to include referrals to tutorial services and campus resources
  • Participate in campus projects to ensure student success;
  • Utilize data to determine which students need additional follow up throughout the semester;
  • Provide ongoing contact with an assigned caseload of students to ensure their retention and progression, through the use of social media, telephone, email, and student analytics.
  • This position will interact with faculty and administration to enhance advisement for students
  • Process, handle and update all student academic records with integrity, accuracy and timeliness.
  • Assists the Registrar with planning and implementation of relevant office responsibilities.
  • Ensure the proper collection, maintenance and communication of numerous student academic records and performance data.
  • Take stock in, and truly care for student success
  • Aid the Registrar with attendance, grade processing and transcript maintenance, accurate data input into
  • PowerCampus, graduation audits and enrollment reporting, registration and transfer evaluations and filing.

  • Create standard ad hoc reports, to offer recommended improvements in processes within the office

  • Maintain compliance with all relevant university, state, federal and accreditation rules and regulations

  • With Dean approval, Advisors meeting the proper credential qualifications may be requested to teach up to three courses a year, but not more than one per term, to ensure their close contact with new students.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited institution; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years experience in an academic environment
  • Previous experience in an appropriate academic discipline
  • Previous experience advising students.
  • Knowledge of social media applications, tracking of special populations, documenting contacts, making referrals and maintaining advisee files is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of accreditation and university academic rules and regulations
