    Stratford University seeks a forward thinking and entrepreneurial leader to provide administrative and instructional leadership University-wide for all non-credit bearing, continuing education unit, courses. The Director provides visionary leadership to transform continuing studies at Stratford University and builds a robust program that serves the entire community. The Director will continuously seek out traditional and entrepreneurial learning opportunities to incubate new approaches to continuing studies and internal/external partnerships that are aligned with learning at the University. The successful candidate will build CEU opportunities; develop and implement outreach programs that drive prospective students to become applicants and ultimately matriculate to Stratford University; develop competency boot camps aligned for transfers; and develop special or emerging industry career programs aimed at full-time and part-time students. The successful candidate has knowledge of national trends in adult and continuing studies and will develop and implement expanded professional education.


    Essential Job Functions:

    • Identify and implement entrepreneurial strategies to cover administrative costs associated with the delivery of all noncredit programming
    • Negotiate contracts, and establish collaborative agreements as necessary and beneficial, with all campuses and external vendors to provide cost-effective programming and/or supportive services
    • Speaks before interested agencies and groups to disseminate information about the program; make promotional contact with news media and civic organizations; represent the program at meetings, workshops and conferences.
    • Assists in developing strategic plans for community, business and industry training outreach.
    • Establishes and maintains extensive service provider network internal and external to the University, identifying workforce training and development resources program, pricing and points of contact.
    • Establishes and coordinates specific training course and curriculum development, promotion, and class scheduling. Develop and schedule CEU workshops.
    • Contracts with Stratford University internal and external third party instructors, consultants and vendors for delivery of training services.
    • Develops Stratford University’s CEU-corporate client work order specifications for approval and authorization.
    • Recruits and consults with faculty and adjunct instructors to ensure training delivery achieves desired outcomes and is taught according to standards
    • Supervise Continuing Education Unit (CEU) policies, procedures, and approvals, and record-keeping
    • Prepare reports to track program development and contributions to University strategic goals
    • Implements quality assurance improvements as they are established.
    • Improves quality of program providers and their courses while maintaining revenue levels to sustain program
    • Provides Guidance and support on continuing education trends, content development, program administration, and delivery to ensure compliance with program requirements.
    • Improve the process for course reviews and provider audits to meet quality assurance standards.
    • Manages program business plan and financials including budget, revenue targets, annual invoicing of providers and development of provider resources and guidance to support quality programs.
    • Oversight of the development, management, coordination, marketing, evaluation and implementation of the Stratford University’s Continue Education Unit’s programs and services.
    • Manage the operations and work of the continuing education staff, including program reviews, provider training, member and provider audits and data quality and management. 
    • Adjust work schedule to include occasional weekends and evenings in order to fulfill professional obligations of overseeing program delivery and events
    • Advises President on continuing education matters
    • Provides proactive support to economic development initiatives and leadership for the development and delivery of workforce training and development programs to government, business, and industry client
    • Interacts with community groups, local school districts and business and industry regarding their specific training needs
    • Engage with local and regional organizations, agencies, and businesses in ways that lead to understanding of outreach needs and revenue-generating opportunities
    • Assess, in consultation with internal and external constituencies, which outreach needs and opportunities can be effectively addressed through programming offered by or coordinated through the university
    • Collaborate innovatively with faculty, professional staff, and external vendors in planning, marketing, and delivering programming that, at a minimum, functions as cost recovery basis
    • Establish short- and long-term plans and goals for noncredit programming reflective of regional needs and opportunities and supportive of University initiatives
    • Oversee the evaluation of noncredit programming, using evaluative information to judge impact of offerings, improve future offerings, and strategically plan new outreach directions and initiatives
    • Explore opportunities to offer programs in a variety of formats such as on-line, streaming video or off-site.
    • Supervise personnel in the provision of online and onsite registration for all noncredit programming

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, comfort with public speaking, ability to listen and learn and engender trust among various constituencies
    • Able to develop new academic programs, review existing programs and understand how to review, improve and implement new/updated academic programs.
    • Skilled at problem solving, thinking analytically and developing programs that advance the university’s strategic objectives and mission
    • Strong skills for sustained measurement of academic program outcomes, ability to work independently and with and through others to achieved desired results
    • Handles emergency and crisis situations that pertain to the campus student and faculty functioning.
    • Recommends and participates in the development of university policies and procedures


    Required Education and Experience:

    • Proven track record in (1) building and maintaining relationships with funders and securing CEU grant funding or (2) working as a provider of CEU grant funding
    • Experience with Performance Improvement/Quality Improvement CEU initiatives preferred
    • Experience in industry CEU, accreditation, or as a non-accredited provider of CEU a plus
    • An earned doctorate from an accredited institution. Substantial experience in a higher education leadership position, and actively pursuing a doctorate degree, will be considered in lieu of a completed doctorate degree.
    • 5 or more years of senior level leadership and experience in higher education, ideally supporting academic development.
    • Significant experience in the development and administration of curriculum, budget, personnel management, strategic planning, and the use of technology in higher education.
    • Demonstrated experience in the management of continuing professional education programs, including strategic business planning, comprehensive needs assessment, program design/development, program delivery, technology and evaluation. 
    • Considerable knowledge of and skill in defining and designing projects, monitoring costs, quality and on-time performance of project activities using standard project management techniques.  
    • Skill in facilitation, team building, collaborative problem solving, conflict resolution, and systems/process development. 
    • Skill in contracting with educational vendors and consultants and managing projects to successful completion and in evaluating vendor, provider, or consultant-provided educational products/projects, negotiating and managing service agreements of vendors and consultants. 
    • Skill in negotiation and active listening. 
    • Demonstrated skill in developing and monitoring revenue/expense budgets to achieve fiscal performance goals. 
    • Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities and responsibilities. 
    • Ability to coordinate a diverse resource pool, to interact effectively in an individual membership environment, recognize and identify member concerns, analyze issues and concepts to correctly state a problem and develop recommended solutions. 
    • Experience and skill in writing/editing and public speaking. Ability to mentor and manage direct reports.
    • Demonstrated experience with academic strategic planning, strong fiscal management linking resource allocation to planning and priorities, data-driven decision-making and leading the ongoing efforts in support of accreditation standards.
