The primary responsibility of the Manager, Career Services is to place students and graduates in jobs directly related to the field. The Manager, Career Services supervises all aspects of the Career Services Office (CSO) specifically, placement of graduates, cultivating employer relationships and generating employment opportunities for graduates in their academic fields of study. The primary responsibility of the Manager, Career Services is to place students and graduates in jobs directly related to the field. The Manager, Career Services is responsible for management of all placement processes in order to meet the school’s placement goals and to ensure that the school adheres to professional standards and policies in all aspects of student placement and accreditations requirements. The Manager, Career Services will be responsible for overseeing and counseling students and alumni in career planning skills and job search strategies, coordination of training skills workshops and career forums, management of the on-campus interviewing, development of relationships with potential employers, and developing effective working relationships with students, alumni, staff and other placement professionals.

Functions

  • Place grads by the end of the reporting period; responsible for meeting placement goals, requirements and gainful employment.
  • Meet all accrediting agencies standards and requirements.
  • Developing and maintaining effective relationships with employers and recruiters.
  • Directing the On-Campus Interview.
  • Responsible for understanding hiring trends, salaries, expectations and reporting information back to institution leaders.
  • Participates in Advisory Committee meetings as the voice of employment partners.
  • Developing and overseeing career services resource library.
  • Developing and maintaining career services databases.
  • Preparing statistical and other reports for internal and external constituencies.
  • Responsible for job fairs - duties include school registration, advertisement, distribution of student registration materials, collection and transmittal of resumes and application materials, maintenance of list of participating students, receipt and distribution of interview schedules, all communications with job fair coordinator, familiarity with deadlines, and on-site responsibilities

  • Prepare statistical reports and maintain all records on graduate employment
  • Responsible for the Mock Interview Program
  • Manage the Career Services employer and resume database
  • Determine objectives and designs strategies to provide career planning and placement to undergraduate and graduate students participating in certificate and degree programs
  • Provide comprehensive career counseling services to students based on individual career needs to include individual career consulting, career assessment, career/academic planning and coordination, resume writing assistance and critiques, interviewing techniques including mock interviews and presentation of skills (effective interviewing) workshops
  • Organize career programs and professional development seminars, including career fairs and new student orientation programs and actively market to employers to generate job opportunities for students and alumni
  • Distribute job leads via job boards, email, phone and class announcements
  • Research and keep abreast of employment trends and opportunities, locally and nationally, including representing the University at national and regional organizations
  • Provide general career counseling to assist students with career assessment and job search preparation via individual meetings, classroom workshops, e-mail correspondence and telephone
  • Coordinate and assist university officials in hosting events, assist with creation and maintenance of Career Services web page, participate in staff meetings to manage cross-functional projects
  • Collect and maintain complete and accurate employment records for all graduates via exit interviews in accordance with accreditation requirements
  • Utilize computer-based office technology to complete administrative tasks; maintain a database of Student Employment opportunities and placements, provide monthly reports and updates as requested
  • Produce annual and quarterly placement reports
  • Generate graduate and employer satisfaction surveys on a quarterly basis
  • Develop and participate in and assist with activities related to career services and student retention including student activities, career fairs and workshops
  • Assure student counseling referrals are provided in a timely manner and counseling sessions are properly documented
  • Ensure career accreditation requirements are met
  • Work collaboratively with senior management and department heads on achieving objectives for retention and graduation success rates

  • Excellent customer service and committed to student satisfaction and success.
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant career field with at least 2 years of experience working as a career services specialist
  • Active affiliation with appropriate marketing networks and organizations and a record on ongoing community involvement
  • Experience in higher education is preferred.
  • Knowledge of accreditation requirements preferred
