    Overview: 

     

    Do you have true passion for making a difference in the lives of others, through the delivery of competency-based educational programs?  Are you a hard-charger, able to inspire your students to achieve beyond expectations? Do you spend time thinking of new ways to excite and enthrall students?

     

    The Adjunct Faculty Member is expected to work collaboratively with the Program Director, Campus Dean and academic support programs to facilitate student success and strengthen the reputation of the university by promoting excellence through curriculum development and delivery. Active participation in departmental, campus and college committees is required.

     

    Functions

    Additional Requirements:

    • Outstanding interpersonal and leadership skills
    • Emotional coping skills appropriate for the management of student behavior
    • Overseas teaching experience and second-language acquisition experience preferred
    • An assessment of the candidates’ (English) language proficiency may be required as part of the hiring process

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Transform course objectives and course materials into useful learning activities for students
    • Engage students in the learning process and accommodate for varied learning styles and developmental levels within the classroom/program
    • Acknowledge learners’ cultural and linguistic backgrounds
    • Manage classroom behavior in ways that maximize learning
    • Maintain class schedules and instructional integrity through adherence to curriculum
    • Maintain appropriate records related to students including attendance, grades, and other documents and ensure their delivery to the appropriate administrator in a timely manner
    • Assist the ESL students in gaining an understanding of American culture

    Qualifications

    Educational Requirements:

     

    Credentials for Academic Courses

    • MA in TESOL, TEFL, second language teaching, or Linguistics, or equivalent course work*
    • Experience (minimum: supervised practicum)

    Credentials for Personal Development and Professional Courses

    • Degree required; related field to TESOL preferred
    • TEFL, CELTA, or TESOL certificate if degree is outside of related fields
    • Teaching experience required; business experience preferred

     

    Credentials for Teaching Test Preparation Courses

    • BA or MA (English, Education, Linguistics, or TESOL preferred)
    • Standardized testing experience preferred
    • TEFL, CELTA, or TESOL certificate if degree is outside of related fields
    • Teaching experience; test prep teaching experience preferred

    Credentials for Substitutes

    • BA or MA (English, Education, Linguistics, or TESOL preferred)
    • TEFL, CELTA, or TESOL certificate if degree is outside of related fields
    • ESL teaching experience

    *Previous hires may have related degrees + linguistics component
